Operation Thanksgiving Is NOW!

It's time. And like usual in the United States, these are challenging times. But listeners of The Morning Show, like you, have always dug deep and given. This year I have chosen Prison Fellowship as our Operation Thanksgiving / Spirit of Christmas partner.

There are three reasons why:

  1. There has been a spread of Islam in America's correctional system and there are men and women who are asking for bibles. The bibles are a special the NLT version written with recovery and restart in mind with special studies and topics with scriptural support inside it. These bibles are also in a larger type because many inmates have vision issues. Lastly, this version does NOT embrace the changes in the masculine nature of how God and Jesus present themselves in God's Word. We want God's Word in the hands of men and women who want it. These special bibles are $20.00 each.
  2. Angel Tree. Years ago I worked with Prison Fellowship when I pastored vocationally. Angel Tree was one of the most rewarding programs we ever invested in because you are giving a gift ... and this is important ... in the name of the mom or dad who is in prison. This keeps a vital connection for family and for you and me, it is the ultimate expression of Christian giving ... it's anonymous. We give the money, the gift comes in the name of the parent. Sponsoring one child is $30.00.
  3. Chuck Colson. I will not recount Mr. Colson's life changing encounter with Jesus when he was in prison due to his involvement in the Watergate political scandal in the 1970's. I will just write this brilliant intellect was transformed and Prison Fellowship is the result. When I was a pastor to youth and college students, Mr. Colson gave a talk at something called Youth Congress. He said something I have quoted ever since, hundreds of times. "You may think the biggest decision you will make in your life is who you will marry, what career you choose, or which house you may one day purchase. But the truly biggest decision you will ever make is whether or not you will be a Christian. That decision will act as a filter for every other choice you make in your life." That was, and is, eternity and life altering wisdom.

So, here's what you do. Pray about what, if anything, you are to do. Then, go here and give what you choose to give. This Giving Season initiative runs through December 16th.
