Few leaders have played a bigger role in establishing South Florida as a technology and innovation destination than Melissa Medina. As Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of eMerge Americas, Medina has helped transform Miami and the broader region into a globally recognized hub for entrepreneurs, investors, startups, and emerging technologies.

Since launching eMerge Americas in 2014, Medina has overseen the growth of its flagship annual technology conference into one of the most influential innovation gatherings in the Western Hemisphere. Each year, the event brings together more than 20,000 attendees from over 50 countries, including founders, investors, corporate executives, academics, and government leaders, creating a powerful platform for collaboration and economic growth.

Under her leadership, eMerge Americas has evolved far beyond a single conference. The organization now operates as a year-round innovation ecosystem, offering startup pitch competitions, accelerator programs, executive summits, innovation challenges, masterclasses, and industry research focused on venture capital and emerging technologies. Through these initiatives, more than 1,100 startups have received support, collectively raising more than $3 billion in funding, creating over 10,000 high-wage jobs, and generating an estimated $2.6 billion in economic impact across Florida.

In addition to leading eMerge Americas, Medina serves as a Partner at Medina Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm investing in frontier technologies, including artificial intelligence and quantum computing. Her work centers on identifying innovations that can strengthen economic growth, competitiveness, and technological leadership.

Before becoming a prominent figure in the technology sector, Medina spent nearly a decade with Terremark Worldwide, where she held roles spanning finance, account management, and business analysis. The experience provided a strong foundation in operations, growth strategy, and technology infrastructure prior to Terremark's acquisition by Verizon in 2011.

Medina's leadership has earned widespread recognition throughout the business community. She has been named a South Florida Business Journal Power Leader in Technology and Ultimate CEO, received Florida International University's Woman of Distinction Award, and been recognized among the Top 100 Latina Powerhouses by HOLA! for her impact on business and community development.

Beyond her professional achievements, Medina is deeply involved in civic and philanthropic leadership. She serves on the Board of Trustees of The Miami Foundation and the Florida Council of 100, while also supporting the advancement of women in communication through Florida International University's Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver Center.

A proud Miami native, Melissa Medina remains committed to growing Florida's innovation economy and expanding opportunities for future entrepreneurs. Yet despite her many accomplishments, she considers her most important role to be that of a mother to her five children.
