Disclaimer: I am NOT a pilot.
However, I have soloed and as a wannabe have long studied NTSB safety reports on crashes, both civilian and commercial. I am always interested how pilots with, perhaps, thousands of hours of flight time make mistakes or allow themselves to be placed in compromised circumstances when flying.
Of course, there are weather and mechanical issues which can challenge, and defeat, the most seasoned flyer. But I have found most crashes are due to some kind of human error.
When I heard and saw the initial reports of the crash of the Boeing 767-300 flying for Amazon Prime in Miami my immediate reaction as to the cause was as follows: a plane coming in too fast, too late (landing too far down the runway), too heavy, or maybe assigned to a runway which was too short, with the distinct possibility it was a combination of one or more of those issues.
I am turning to a seasoned professional with a YouTube channel which enjoys a huge following of more than 1.1 million people.
Here's what Captain Steeeve has to say about it.
At the request of pilots I know, I have also included the analysis of Juan Brown ... who many find to be the better source of thoughtful judgment.
