I have been in the advertising and marketing space for much of my professional life in one form or another. I have always enjoyed the challenge of helping a business or organization find their voice. As a very young man I worked for a sammlish ad and public relations firm in Phoenix, Az. Obviously, audio formats have taken up the majority of my time in the field, but I have spent more than a few years in the television, now video, world as well.
When the ad I am about to share was flagged by wife she shared it with a simple question - "Have you seen this?"
She didn't offer why she thought it was endearing in any way, shape, or form.
I had not, but when I watched it I felt like I had seen one of the best, most effective video ads I had seen in a very long time. But before you watch it I want to explain why it "works."
This ad makes the watcher feel ... that's it. It's animated lead character, or mascot, is cute, kind, and seems to be on a mission to make people lives better ... through a cup of coffee. He finds his target and through one cup of java her life gets a boost of purpose. With his subject changed he moves on to his next. The music was composed for the commercial. The company did not rip off some pop song of yesterday (not always a bad idea, but this is refreshing) and the music plays a significant role in conveying the gentle nature of the character and his message.
This is no small feat to get my attention because I do not drink coffee. I have never had a cup, but I promise you this brand is going to grow very popular in large part to the little guy, the music, and the feeling you get seeing the commercial. The short version of this ad is appearing nation-wide.
This is a brilliant ad.
