I may be way late to the party, but listeners know I love flying (well, I love piloting an airplane). Though I am not a licensed pilot, I have soloed and the experience will never be forgotten. I have been told by many that gliding takes it to another level because it is as close to being a bird as we can be while in an airplane (okay, there is a wingsuit ... no thanks).
This is a self-launching glider.
Normally, gliders need a tow plane to get it up to the proper altitude where it can be released and then fly using thermals radiating up from the ground. Of course, some geographical places are better suited for this type of flying than others. The Arcus needs no assistance.
Enter the jet engine which takes this glider into the skies. But I wondered ... what happens to the actual engine? It would present drag and making gliding much more difficult. The guy in the backseat has a 360 video camera he extends out of the cockpit in back and shows us about that single jet and it is amazing.
