In June, video was released which appears to document a Saudi national "casing" Washington, D.C. two years prior to the 9/11 attacks. The 9/11 Commission said Al Qaeda acted alone in carrying out the terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C., but this video suggests otherwise.
In fact, this video, and the report from 60 Minutes, indicates Saudi Arabia was not only aware of the plans, but likely helped facilitate it. The operative working for Saudi intelligence is Omar Al-Bayoumi and he had close ties to two of the hijackers as well as Saudi diplomats living in the nation's capital.
Scotland Yard had the video in the center of all of this due to a raid of Al-Bayoumi's apartment in the U.K. and handed it over to the FBI shortly after 9/11. Why has it taken twenty-three years to see the video? Al-Bayoumi and the Saudi government claim there's nothing to see here. I disagree.
What else don't we know?
Here's another, more in-depth, perspective from a British intelligence expert.
