Exciting News On Orphan Shade / WFLA Project

Last Giving Season, you (The Ruminators, the listeners of The Morning Show with Preston Scott) gave nearly $40,000 to build an orphanage in Malawi. The home will be the third for Orphan Shade.

The short version is Jay and Stacey Schierloh were ready to move into their retirement years when God placed a burden on their heart. They learned of the plight faced by children, often young girls, in Malawi. Too frequently, they lose not one, but both parents to AIDS. The result can lead to the young girls being sold in human trafficking, but that is not the only challenge faced.

Malawi is a poor, a very poor nation. Relatives often cannot absorb the children of their brothers and sisters into their home due to the associated costs, so there was a need. However, not for a typical orphanage. Afterall, who would adopt? No, Jay and Stacey decided these children needed a home.

For good.

Orphan Shade partners with vibrant, local Christian churches in villages where the tribal leaders support the effort to provide a home for these children. Two homes are open. The kids are raised by a husband and wife who have pledged to raise these orphans as their own and the new "family" is supported and overseen by a local pastor and congregation.

Last year, you pitched in and raised the funds to build a third home all by yourselves. You did it all. This fall, we'll give you a chance to support the home (which will not take long because a dollar goes a long way in Malawi). These children will not only have a solid home, meals, and a family focused on Jesus, but they will also get an education.

The opening of a new home is a very big event for a village. Below, you can see the Grand Opening of home number two in the village of Chipolopolo.
