January Littlejohn did not ask for this nor did she seek it out. Promises were made by the district and those promises were not kept.
When Deerlake Middle School staff met with her minor daughter three years ago they created a plan to help the girl begin the process of "transitioning" and included how to keep the girl's parents in the dark.
This is egregious conduct is at the center of a lawsuit Littlejohn has filed against Leon County Schools in federal court.
Nearly all of the reporting on this story has come, of course, from Tallahassee Reports.
While some believe federal court is not the right venue for the case, Littlejohn's legal counsel thinks differently and believes the 11th Circuit is the perfect landing spot for the suit which was predictibly dismissed by oft over-ruled Obama appointee Judge Mark Walker.
Walker famously ordered the State of Florida to keep providing hormone treatments to a transexual inmate in a men's facility, also demanding the State provide female undergarments and grooming products. The judge also blocked Florida's riot law unconstitutional and a violation of the 1st Amendment despite the fact the law made clear distinctions between peaceful and violent/destructive protests.
Walker is, not only an activist jurist, a reliable liberal and that is a problem when your occupation is that of a judge. No one should know your politics, but his are clear. He routinely berates Republicans and conservatives in his written rulings displaying an utter disdain for his oath of office. The good news is that on the most important cases he is frequently overruled on appeal.
In this nearly half-hour visit Littlejohn recounts the Cliff Notes version of what happened to her daughter, the current status of her case as well as Leon County School policy, and what is happening throughout the district and nation.
If you have a child in public education anywhere in the nation - this is a must listen.
