I love contemporary Christian music. I also love much of the modern praise and worship sung in churches, though not all. Thankfully, there are still places which rely on, or mix-in, hymns. The bible speaks to the subject where it is written in Ephesians 5 suggesting we should be "addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart,"
I love hymns because they teach scriptural truths we often lose sight of in our world today.
This hymn, "Great Is Thy Faithfulness," written by Thomas Chisolm and his friend, William Runyan, is inspired by Chisolm's reflection on Lamentations 3:22-23. He wrote hundreds of poems in his life, but this is the one which endures. When I came across two of my favorite voices, Carrie Underwood and CeCe Winans, singing this classic song about a biblical anchor in our lives I knew I had to share it.
When I played it again this morning, an hour and a half before the show...I just sat and cried ... tears of gratitude for God's faithfulness in my life and so many in my family.
I hope this blesses and encourages you as it does me.
