Rush Limbaugh announced on Monday, February 3 that he has "advanced lung cancer."
It was, as many have stated, a punch in the gut.
As the son of a legendary broadcaster, Ray Scott, I am grateful for introductions my father made for me in my younger years. My dad was an amazing sportscaster and a member of many halls of fame, a true professional at his trade. Rush, however, created almost by himself, an industry where many have not just survived, but thrived. I am one of those and I am grateful. He has been kind enough to be a guest on my show.
My personal career started in radio, moved to vocational ministry, then back to media. Television, live sports play-by-play, then back to my passion - talk radio. Because of Rush there was a place for me.
This is not to ignore the reality that God is the ultimate provider, but throughout HIStory God uses men and women to accomplish His purpose. Rush has been used mightily by God. On many occasions over the years I spent in ministry I walked with families as they endured the challenge he faces. I walked it with my own family and, nearly forty years ago, I walked it myself.
I repeat this often - God is not caught unaware of Rush's condition. God is not in a panic wondering..."Oh, my Me, what do I do?" Rush, you, and me have to rest in knowing God is ultimately the author of our life and our passing.
The experiences I have walked or witnessed inform my decision to put this page together dedicated to brief words and scriptures from God's Word, the Bible, of encouragement and healing. Send them to me - sign them with your first name. After moderating them, I will simply cut and paste. I will update every few days.

This will be a source of great encouragement to Rush.
Thank you,
Preston
Isaiah 41:10
"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
Rush, you are in my daily prayers. Draw strength and encouragement from the fact that God IS in control and He can work with or without the best minds in medicine. If He chooses to use doctors...there is a reason. Do not be surprised by the opportunities you have to share your faith in Him.
Blessings, Preston
I’ve been listening to Rush since we could get his program in Tallahassee. Saddened by the news of his diagnosis. But Rush is strong. He’s tenacious. Be encouraged. Prayers for your healing. Jeremiah 29:11(NIV)11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
James
Rush,
I’ve been listening to you since day one in Tallahassee. In 1993-4 with absolutely no experience I hosted a daily radio talk show on a Christian radio station because of you. You have without a doubt molded my life and political world view. God be with you and heal you completely.
Sincerely, Randy
Good Morning Rush,
As you journey through this storm please know we are praying diligently for you in the early morning hours.Trials in life are often sent to test us in a way that results in new confidence and strength. May you feel daily the love and power of prayer for your healing from your millions of fans.
Love you Rush, Gale and family
Rush,
It was very hard to hear the end of your show yesterday. However you did speak of the Lord and the relationship that you have with him and I applaud you for this and just ask that you lean on him during this trying time to lift your spirits and believe in the healing powers of Christ. We are going to keep you in our daily prayers and can't wait to hear you tell us how this ghastly disease has been vanished from your body. Here is a verse of scripture I remember often being used when we place people on our prayer chain. James 5: 14-16 from the NIV 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
God bless you Rush, A faithful listener from Panama City,
Mike
I'm a new lister and I love your program. I'm also a Christian. I will be praying for you to get a full and complete healing.Thank you for all you do and have done for America.God bless you and Katherine.

Rush,
What you are facing is quite a tough battle. Jesus will be with you through this battle. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. God gave you a special talent which was brought forth thru the radio. You have helped many to understand the battles we face in this country. For this Rush, I thank you. I also thank God for bringing you to us.
Joshua 1:9 Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Isaiah 12:2 Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.
Miracles do happen Rush, and I ask in Jesus’ name a miracle for you.
God Bless, Mary
Rush,
I'm 57 years old. I've had brain aneurysm surgery twice. First in 2014 and again just this past December 2019. The Bible verse I live by and that gives me comfort is Roman's 8:28 "All things work together for good, to them who love the Lord, to them who are called according to his purpose". Godspeed Rush!
Emily
Rush,
Thanks, being a pioneer in using your God-given mantel to carry the message of truth and hope that pierced the heart of s diabolical lies. Thanks for sharing a portion of your mantel with us. There is something about being God’s beloved, it is eternal. God will give you peace and continue to hold you and His eternal arms of love. In the name of Jesus and through the blood that He shed on the cross, I am praying for your healing and restoration. Heal me, LORD, and I will be healed; save me, and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise. Jeremiah 17:14
Blessing to you and your family,
Tanya
Dear Rush,
My Mom was one of your biggest fans. She listened to you from the very beginning. She was a wise and very discerning person. She didn't give advice unless it would benefit you in a positive and meaningful way. I knew when she told me "you should listen to him, you might learn something" that she must be right. I have been listening to you ever since. The time sure has gone by, but your message has not changed. With each broadcast you have armed me with the wisdom and knowledge to debate others effectively and help to change hearts and minds about the importance of freedom, the greatness of our country, and the courage to make a difference in this crazy world! You have blessed me, my family, and millions around the globe with your wonderful books and gifted story telling in the most engaging and memorable way. We have a large family with many small children who are growing up knowing Rush Revere and his horse Liberty! You have affected many generations with the truth of our founding and the building blocks of living a life of conservatism. You are a beacon of light to me, the many people you touch through your wonderful foundations, and all who are lucky enough to know you.
You are truly a national treasure and a living legend. I and my entire family love and cherish you, pray for your healing, thank you for all you do, and thank God for who you are. We are forever grateful to you and thank you for sharing your life with us in such an extraordinary way, and will continue to be enriched by the wise and amazing man behind the golden EIB mic.
I love you Rush.
Melanie
Rush,
I have been listening to Rush since 2002. I have learned much for him and it has help me form the conservative views I have now. I love when I am at work or in the car between 12 and 3, because I know he will be there! Isaiah 41:10 "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
Allison
Rush,
If I could share with you (one of my heroes for your work of many years), I would tell you that I was diagnosed with bone cancer in October & it has changed my life completely. I am now reading a book by T.D. Jakes called "Crushing (God turns pressure Into Power)" and it ministers to me giving me the right perspective to view my battle. I highly recommend this book and believe it will minister to you also. Sent with love and prayers,
Julia
Mega Dittos, Rush.
I appreciate your humor and analysis of where things are in our country. You have such a knack for cutting to the heart of any issue. I’m praying for you and your family. Psalm 55:22 - Cast your burden on the Lord and He shall sustain you. Peace and comfort,
Nancy.
Rush,
My wife and I are putting a golden EIB bow on our tree & posts in recognition of our prayers & well being for our friend & mentor Rush Limbaugh. .
Walter & Jeanne
Rush,
May God be with you as you fight your cancer. You are so loved by myself, my family and my good friends. My husband and I enjoy listening to you whenever we are in the car around noon to three. You have always been one of our favorite radio hosts and we want you to come back as soon as you defeat the cancer.
You will be in our thoughts and prayers,
Ann
Rush,
When you first aired, there was no bigger fan than my dad and me. I would make my dad record your show on cassette tapes so that when I got home from school I could listen to you while doing my homework or before going to sleep in bed. Regretfully my parents divorced a short time after, but it was my connect with my dad through you that has helped us stay together no matter how far apart we seemed to get. Furthermore, I am a US Navy Veteran, and so you know Rush, my dad made sure that I received care packages every 2 weeks. You better believe there were Rush cassette tapes waiting for me to listen. Rush, you have transcended to something beyond a radio host. You were the voice I heard when times were good and when times were very bad. It saddens me to hear of your diagnosis but I pray for you and believe if anyone can beat this, you can. Many prayers and much love from someone who has always felt you were a part of the family. Thank you and God bless you!
With deepest respects,
Robert
Rush,
Like Preston said, this was a gut punch not only for you but for millions of us out here. You have been the voice for us who feel like we have no voice. We continue to depend on you to go to bat for what is right, decent and American. I am not given to cliches and platitudes. All I can say is that this family and millions like us are pulling for you. Keep fighting the good fight and stay strong.
God bless you and Katherine.
Pat, Jeri and Leigh Ann
