Another terrible school shooting.
The most meaningful statement actually has come from celebrity Chelsea Handler. She blamed Republicans.
She is correct...at least in Florida. Despite having huge majorities in the State House and Senate, Sunshine State Republicans have not mustered the courage to do the only sensible thing.
Look, Americans will not, CANNOT, give up their guns. It is what prevents the government from going Venezuela or North Korea us citizens.
And, bad guys will always get a gun...always.
It's time to clear the way for faculty and staff to receive training, if they choose, and carry on campus. It's time to take the uniforms off Resource Officers so there is a chance of surprise.
To borrow from illiberals...
How many school shootings do we need to endure before we do the right thing? How many lives have to be lost before we understand guns in the hands of good guys are what stops guns in the hands of the bad?
Handler was right, sort of, but not the way she meant it. In Florida, at this point, it's the GOP's fault. More can be done to protect schools and their students and staff. Books and barricades will not get it done. Ever.
The 2nd Amendment has cleared the way. Time to offer school campuses a chance to be protected.
