President Donald Trump did a wonderful job during his first SOTU address. However, I would have taken a different path.
I would have met with the GOP and asked them to only stand for remarks about my invited guests in the gallery and our military. I would have explained at the outset of my speech, "I request all members of Congress remain seated for most of my policy related remarks because it only highlights to the American people how fractured and divided we are and it is embarrassing."
However, if I had gone the route the President did I would have highlighted to U.S. citizens how "Democrats refuse to stand for less taxes and more money in your pockets; refuse to stand for getting rid of regulation which can only mean Democrats believe in encumbering you with massive government intrusion into every area of your life; refuse to stand for an opportunity to make compromise and secure the status of those brought to this country illegally as children; refuse to stand for progress made which has lowered the unemployment rates to 45 year lows for all Americans and historic, never-before-seen rates for black and Hispanic Americans...." well, you get the idea.
If you missed it, here are some of the key excerpts.
