Here's where we are with electromagnetic technology - the newest iteration of the Navy's rail gun. As the name implies the projectile is shot out using a magnetic pulse on twin rails. The goal is ten rounds per minute. It's speed it Mach 6 or six times the speed of sound. Of course, that means the weapon hits is target before anyone would hear it coming.
Could this be the ideal tactical weapon to minimize collateral damage while ending an opponent's weapon from causing harm? What follows illustrates the "rapid" fire capability. The fact this was released on video by the NAVY tells me we are seeing it at half speed.
