It is the second greatest call in sports broadcasting history (the first being Al Michael's, "Do you believe in miracles? Yes!").
"He is moving like a tremendous machine." Those words were uttered by sports broadcaster and thoroughbred horse track announcer Charles David Anderson. "Chick" Anderson was watching what Jack Nicklaus would describe as "perfection." Secretariat's immortal win in the Belmont.
It happened on June 9, 1973.
I watched on television like millions of others and many of you. I will never forget it. I still get goose bumps watching the race and hearing the call.
I also remember the Preakness. I share it here to call your attention to what would portend Secretariat's run at the Belmont. You'll hear the call, but watch what happens in the first turn. Secretariat goes from last to first in a breathtaking sprint which reveals a speed never before seen.
I may not have not have seen him in person, but I will never, ever forget a horse named Secretariat.
