First Lady Casey DeSantis spent the morning in St. Augustine touting the accomplishments of her foundation, Hope Florida, calling allegations of impropriety from House republicans a "misunderstanding."
She said, "What we are doing is good, what we are doing is just. Sometimes you have to put on the full armor of God, and you fight because you know what you are doing is righteous."
The charity is under the microscope over how it directed millions in donations. The governor responded today saying that documentation has been provided that debunks any claims of impropriety.
Governor DeSantis says the media is peddling a bogus narrative about his wife's faith-based charity, Hope Florida. He says his wife, who may run to succeed him as governor, is perceived as a "threat."
"I think a lot of people are threatened by the success of the program. It upends some of their ideological commitments. It shows that she's actually made a difference. I know there's people that are threatened by that," said DeSantis.
The controversy comes as the governor continues to feud with House leaders over budgets and bills this legislative session.
