Miami, FL - A man has been arrested after he attacked his wife and stepdaughter with a knife and sword during an altercation in Miami's Little Haiti neighborhood last week.
According to police, 57-year-old Manuel Antonio Leyva Castillo allegedly attacked his wife and stepdaughter with a knife and sword during an altercation at a residence near the 6500 block of Northwest First Place around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The confrontation began when Leyva Castillo got into a verbal argument with his wife over her bringing a co-worker to dinner on a previous occasion.
During the argument, Leyva Castillo's stepdaughter intervened to defuse the situation.
In response, Leyva Castillo violently threw her against a wall, threatening her by saying, "If you call the police, I will kill you."
After the attack, Leyva Castillo armed himself with a knife and attempted to cut the back of the stepdaughter's neck.
The victims managed to escape through the back door of the house, but Leyva Castillo pursued the second victim, this time brandishing a sword.
Fortunately, an unknown bystander intervened and prevented further harm.
The victims fled the area and located a nearby police officer to whom they reported the incident.
The Little Haiti Problem Solving Team detained Leyva Castillo.
He was taken into custody by Miami police on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of aggravated battery, and one second-degree felony charge of tampering with a witness.
Records indicate that Leyva Castillo had an outstanding warrant for his arrest stemming from charges related to reckless driving and knowingly driving with a suspended license.
Leyva Castillo was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he's being held on an $11,500 bond.
