A search is underway at a Treasure Coast wildlife preserve after human remains were found there on Wednesday night.

The Martin County Sheriff's Office says a large alligator had possession of some of the remains that were found near a canal bank at the Hungryland Wildlife Preserve.

A sheriff's office sniper is at the scene to protect divers from gators while they conduct the search.

The park is closed to the public.
