A man who stabbed a 13-year old to death during a sleepover in Palm Beach Gardens gets life in prison.
The sentence was the maximum Corey Johnson could have gotten because he was under 18 in March four years ago when he stabbed Jovanni Sierra to death.
In addition to the first degree murder conviction, Johnson was convicted of attempted murder for stabbing another teen more than thirty times and that boy's mother. They both survived.
Johnson later said his Muslim faith played a role but at his sentencing hearing Thursday he denounced ISIS, saying he'd done research in jail.
The now 21-year old also apologized for taking the life of "an innocent boy."
During his trial, Johnson’s defense team argued exposure to violent video games, and brainwashing from ISIS and Nazi propaganda fueled the violence.
Sentencing from postponed from Monday after the judge said Johnson was in COVID quarantine.
