The father of a nine-year old boy with Type 1 diabetes who took his son to CVS for his COVID vaccines says he got a scare from the drug store.

"They just said that when he received the second dose, they realized that he had gotten the full adult dose instead of the children's dose. So he got three times what he was supposed to be getting."

Matthew Garton of Boynton Beach says he took the boy to the hospital as a precaution and when he returned home, the child had a fever of 103 along with a pounding headache. But those symptoms have mostly gone away.

He says parents shouldn't hesitate in getting their kids vaccinated, but has some advice.

"Double check with the person giving them their vaccine. Ask them multiple times to make sure they're getting the children's dose."

CBS 12 reports that the childrens dose comes from a bottle with an orange cap and the adults dose has a purple or gray cap.

CVS says it's "taking steps to help prevent this from occurring again.”
