Raul Castro To Resign As Leader Of Communist Party In Cuba

For the first time in six decades, Cuba will not have a leader with the last name Castro. Raul Castro is expected to step down as the Communist Party's 1st secretary general Friday. Jorge Duany-Director of the Cuban Research Institute at Florida International University- says the name change won't lead to change on the ground. This change comes as Cuba deals with its worst economic crisis in decades, with reforms leading to major inflation-- making long lines for food common. Raul Castro was the president of Cuba for a decade before retiring in 2018.
