Friend Of Woman Pulled From Sewer Says She Needs Time To Heal

A friend of the South Florida woman who was rescued from a storm drain is speaking out on behalf of the family.

"They would like to express their sincere appreciation to the police and fire personnel who responded to the scene and participated in the rescue. They would also like the thank the female who called 911."

43-year old Lyndsey Jane Kennedy told Delray Beach police she was stuck for three weeks before being pulled out of the sewage system on Tuesday.

Family friend Michael Hahn says the woman is recovering at her mother's home and that the family is asking for privacy.

The mother told police that her daughter has a history of mental illness and illegal drug use.

Kennedy claims she got lost in a maze of tunnels after going for a swim in a canal. Hahn told reporters that family members believe the woman's story.

Kennedy was reported missing by her boyfriend earlier this month. She had reportedly moved in with the man in Delray Beach the day before the incident.

Hahn confirmed that Kennedy survived on a can of ginger ale and said that she has a daughter living somewhere else in the state.
