The first batches of Johnson & Johnson's coronavirus vaccine are being prepared for shipment after the CDC approved its distribution. When will it arrive in Florida?
"We don't know for sure whether we will definitely get it this week," Governor Ron DeSantis said Monday in Tallahassee. "but we think we probably will."
Governor DeSantis says Florida is tentatively set to receive 175,000 doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine but that hasn't been confirmed. A CDC panel voted to recommend the single-dose shot for use in the U.S. just days after the FDA granted emergency use authorization.
The J & J vaccine is not quite as effective as the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines in preventing infection but the governor says don't don't hesitate to take it if you get the chance--
"It prevents death- serious hospitalization. If you do get infected with it, it reduces it from the potential for severe illness to basically a common cold situation or a common flu."
It's the first one-shot vaccine the U.S. has approved for use and for that reason Governor DeSantis says the J & J vaccine may actually be better for some people because you don't have to wait to get the booster.
