Florida students should keep up COVID safety protocols during winter break

Florida students have an assignment over the Christmas holiday.

"We want to encourage everyone in our community- our employees, adults, students, everyone- to practice those three 'W's'", Orange County School Superintendent Barbara Jenkins says. "Wearing your mask, washing your hands and watching your distancing."

Dr. Jenkins notes that there was a spike in COVID-19 cases at school after the Thanksgiving holiday just like there was in the community at large.

"If we are not careful during a two week winter break we are going to see a reflection of that when children return in January to our schools."

And Dr. Jenkins says what could make the situation even more challenging next month- 18,000 children in Orange County are returning to the classroom in January from distance learning.
