DeSantis Rejecting Statewide COVID-19 Stay at Home Order

THE VILLAGES -- New York, California, Massachusetts and other states have posted "stay at home" or "shelter in place" orders... but not Florida.

For now, Governor Ron DeSantis is rejecting calls for a statewide "stay at home" order, similar to the ones in states like New York and California. DeSantis says New York's experience shows they won't be obeyed.

"When they did the stay at home order... a lot of people fled the city... we have huge numbers of people coming in." DeSantis said he's asking President Trump to do something about all those southbound flights of curfew scofflaws.

DeSantis also says Floridians need relief from the "angst" of coronavirus-related shutdowns.

Speaking Monday on WFLA's AM Tampa Bay, Lt. Governor Jeannette Nunez said the state has to balance public health concerns with the effect on businesses and their employees.
