The Palm Beach Town Council has reversed a ban on plastic bags.
The council voted to approve the ban in June, but received a letter from the Florida Retail Federation, claiming that it violates state law and threatening to sue the town if it moved forward.
The city of Coral Gables lost a similar case in its efforts to ban plastic bags.
Now, the town of Palm Beach plans to create a coalition with Coral Gables, St. Augustine and other municipalities to take on the state for the rights to put through a ban.
Palm Beach town leaders still plan to enact a ban on single-use plastic straws later this year. There is no law preventing that from happening.
In fact, the governor vetoed a bill that would have prevented municipalities from enacting those bans.
