Southwest First Street Bridge To Be Closed For Three Years For Construction

Strap in if your commute has you driving from Little Havana into downtown Miami. Work begins tonight on destruction and then reconstruction of the 80-year-old Southwest First Street drawbridge. Florida Department of Transportation spokesman Sergies Duarte says the project will take the next 3 years but it's well worth it. Drivers who want to cross over the Miami River are being detoured to northbound Southwest 7th Avenue so they can use the West Flagler Street bridge. 7th and 2nd Avenues will be converted into two-way roads during construction.
