The Tampa Bay Lightning (50-25-6) defeated the Detroit Red Wings (41-30-10) 4-3 on Monday night at Benchmark International Arena in Tampa. With the win, the Lightning stayed alive for the #1 see in the Atlantic Division in the upcoming Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Red Wings and Lightning exchanged goals in the first period - after David Perron scored, Conor Geekie scored on a breakaway late in the frame to tie the game 1-1. In the second period, Tampa Bay got goals from Erik Cernak and Jake Guentzel to build a 3-1 lead.
The Red Wings rallied in the third period with goals from Marco Kasper and Alex DeBrincat to tie the game 3-3. Heading into overtime, it took just twenty-seven seconds for Nikita Kucherov to score the game-winner that gave Tampa Bay a second point.
Andrei Vasilevskiy got the win in net for Tampa Bay, saving 27 of the 30 shots he faced. Cam Talbot went 18-of-22 in net for Detroit in the losing effort.
The Lightning now wrap up the regular season when they host the New York Rangers on Wednesday night. Puck drop between the Lightning and Rangers is scheduled for 7:00 PM on Wednesday night at Benchmark International Arena in Tampa.
