Prosecutors Release Video Of School Shooter's Interrogation

Florida prosecutors released video from the interrogation of the 19-year-old who is accused of opening fire and killing 17 of his former classmates at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. The video is ten hours long and shows the suspect's strange and deteriorating behavior as he is grilled by investigators, just hours after the Valentine's Day shooting. The actual interrogation lasted 13 hours, with breaks, but authorities said they edited out some sections, including Nikolas Cruz's confession.

In the video, Cruz told investigators that he heard a "demon voice" in his head.

It’s a voice. The voice is in here and then it’s me, it’s just regular me, just trying to be a good person.”

He claimed that it was the voices that instructed him to return to his former high school and kill his classmates.

Later in the video, when Cruz was left alone, he started violently punching himself in the face. At one point he can be heard saying "kill me" and "I want to die." He was also seen putting two fingers to his temple and pretending to pull a trigger.

About halfway through the interview, investigators allowed Cruz's brother Zachary into the room. Zachary asked his brother why he committed the mass shooting, causing Cruz to laugh.

“Don’t even laugh at me,” Zachary said. “You probably felt like you had nobody but I, I care about you. I literally would pull my heart out for you.”

Cruz is facing the death penalty after prosecutors rejected a plea deal which would have seen him plead guilty and spend the rest of his life behind bars.
