Pete Hegseth has one of the worst, yet most important, jobs in the country ... Secretary of Defense. Hegseth is one of "them." He was, and is, a military man having served our nation. Hegseth is the 29th Secretary of Defense, sworn in on Jan. 25, 2025. He was commissioned as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army National Guard after graduating from Princeton University in 2003. He participated in a number of active-duty deployments during his time in service, including operations in Guantanamo Bay, Iraq and Afghanistan. Hegseth also served in multiple staff positions in the National Guard. His military awards include two Bronze Star Medals, the Joint Commendation Medal, two Army Commendation Medals, the Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB) and the Expert Infantryman Badge.
Pete Hegseth is a soldier. He's also painfully aware of the deterioration of our military. It started under Barack Obama, it escalated under Joe Biden. President Donald Trump is determined to turn the tide and Hegseth is charged with making it happen.
It is a daunting task. Ridding the armed services of DEI and "wokeness" which has a thirteen year headstart is going to be tough. It is deeply embedded. What will be more difficult is catching up. We are behind with the size of our fighting forces and the hardware needed.
The new Secretary.held a "town hall" at his office, The Pentagon.
