VIDEO: UM Frat Faces Hazing Investigation

A University of Miami frat is at the center of a hazing investigation. UM's student newspaper, the Hurricane, reported yesterday that video taken at Sigma Alpha Epsilon appears to show hazing. In the video, a frat member is in a trash can while three others drink large amounts of milk and then spit or vomit on him. The paper says the video was recorded from a neighboring frat, Alpha Epsilon Pi. School officials say they're aware of the incident, and they're looking into it, with a scheduled meeting later today.

According to the Hurricane, those in the video could be violating the state's anti-hazing law, and their actions could be a felony. Sigma Alpha Epsilon's national chapter says it's working with the school on the investigation, and the UM chapter was placed on a Cease and Desist.

Some students at UM have seen the video. One says Greek life is a big part of the culture here, but it's just not for him. He says the actions in the video are a very extreme path to take to join a student organization. Another student says peer pressure is really powerful, but the risks and dangers just aren't worth it.
